Can a woman continue to wear gemstones during those 4 days of her monthly cycle?
1. Should a woman wearing gemstones for astrological purposes remove them during the 4 days of her menstrual cycle or can she continue wearing them even during those days?
If the stones are to be removed for those days, what’s the procedure to wear them again? Should the gemstones be purified by soaking them in unboiled fresh milk before reusing them?
2. In certain communities, when there’s a death in the family, as a part of ceremonial defilement, the Pooja room is closed for a specified number of days, the Gods idols aren’t touched and even a lamp isn’t lit in front of God for a certain period.
Do such rules apply to gemstones as well as in should one stop wearing them in such instances?
Really a nice and relevant question. The quest for knowing the right thing in you is greatly appreciated. The following text is not only to clear your doubts but also others through you.
1. Generally, it is advised by astrologers to remove the GR during menstrual cycle. However, there are different schools of thought about this subject. This astrologer advises people to remove the rings for 4 days (you are right). When inherently known about the commencement of the cycle, the GR is removed and kept in the Puja Room, on the 5th day early in the morning during Brahama Muhurtha, the ring be purified either by soaking in unboiled fresh milk or turmeric water, dried with a pure cloth and worn.
2. Yes, it is prevalent and right too. You would have noticed that even a small temple in a street would have been closed if a death occurs in any house in that street. Only after the body is taken out of the street, the purification process will take place and the temple opened. It is widely prevalent in the South. This rule is also applied but with a difference. If a death occurs in a house or if one is visiting the relatives/friends of the dead person, the ring needs to be removed and re-worn after taking a full bath, with the formalities mentioned in para 1 above.
Specific:
Now-a-days, gemstone rings are sold by the jewellers on recemmondation of their own astrologers They advise buyers suitable GR to wear the ring on the relevant day of the Planet related to the gemstone. If it is Pearl, to wear it on Monday, etc., etc. It should not be the case in actual point of fact. Gemstone rings do represent the Planets concerned okay, but, they have to be empowered with moolamantras relevant to the purpose(s) for which it is recommended. Then according to the individual’s horoscope, an auspicious date, day and time is fixed for wearing it. There are certain other guidelines before and after wearing the GRs to be followed by the wearer.
Vedic astrologers lay stress on removing the GRs during the period-time and other such times as aforementioned, as the GRs are not just GRs, but a holy one at that after empowered with relevant moolamantras.
